The ancient art of dream interpretation has recorded origins from as far back as 5000-4000 BC, where they were recorded in Clay tablets in Mesopotamia. According to Wikipedia,

“In the Greek and Roman periods, the people believed that dreams were direct messages from the gods or from the dead and that they predicted the future.”

Additional ancient origins include over 700 references of dream prophecy and interpretation in the old testament, and span other religious texts, among them the Talmud, and the Vedic Sacred Texts.

The gift of prophecy and its value in ancient times through dreams can perhaps be best defined in Num. 12:6

“hear now my words:if there be a prophet among you, I the Lord will make myself known unto him in a vision, and will speak unto him in a dream.”

Their value is no less important in today’s modern times, especially during times of our new world changes, where people need a spiritual center that can be defined from within.

How can we use the art of dream interpretation for our own insight and understanding?

There are some wonderful guides to assist us in that goal. One might start with the classic book, “The Undiscovered Self: With Symbols and the Interpretation of Dreams” by Carl Gustav Jung. This is easily found via an Amazon.com link.

You can also try a more modern resource of dream interpretation; one example would be a popular and highly regarded website titled Dream Moods, located at www.dreammoods.com which offers a free online source, rich in information on symbols, meanings and more.

Here are a few symbols to leave you with and to pique your curiosity:

To dream of losing a tooth: becoming more mature. To dream of flying: can denote gaining a new perspective in life, or showing you have control over your dreams and can project yourself astrally. To dream of a rainbow: A great fortune or happiness will be shown you.

Of course, bear in mind these interpretations can change, depending upon how the dream is presented to the dreamer; a dream interpreter has to look at the entire dream of the dreamer to fully analyze. But by learning the major symbols through study and understanding of the various documented interpretations we can bring with us an arsenal of information that can help us as readers or as spiritual seekers, to reach a core center of truth that can bring us balance and understanding in our daily lives. So try some of the resources here, and happy dream interpreting everyone!
