Springtime Prosperity

On the Vernal Equinox March 20th, the world in the Northern Hemisphere will again swing into the soft arms of SPRINGTIME—“the grass is green and the birds are chiriping!” Colourful flowers sprout out of the ground, and the world starts to slowly come back to life to dispel the dreary winter. This is the perfect time to focus our energy and attention on abundance and prosperity.

The traditional symbols and festivals of spring are ripe with connections to abundance, fertility, prosperity, increased income and “having”. In the Chinese Spring Festival children receive packages of money wrapped in red paper, and even our chocolate Easter rabbit originally symbolized prosperity. The word “Easter” comes from the name of a Saxon Goddess called “Oestra” or “Ostara” which means “The dawning of the light in the East” ... she is the promise of springtime and “light” returning, and, of course -fertility! In many cultures, the rites of spring remind us that renewal and plenty are at hand in our human lives just as Spring marked the explosive increase in the natural world of plants blooming, insects humming, and baby animals being born.

The fertility and expansion of Spring doesn’t just mean “fertility” in terms of family expansion… it can also connect us to the abundance and prosperity we can create in our work, businesses, and flow of income, relationships and “heart projects”!

Here are some ideas to honour your inner “Spring Fling” of fertility and prosperity:

For Spring (or for St. Patrick’s Day on March 17th) decorate with shamrocks or clovers.. Still a talisman of luck and fortune in the modern world, the shamrock or clover also represents the green of the “Emerald Isle” of Ireland – the colour of fertile life and spring, as well as the holy “Trinity” represented in the leaves of Father, Son, and Holy Ghost

Decorate and paint real, wooden or ceramic eggs in different colours and especially in shades of green! Green eggs aren’t just a Dr. Seuss staple, they represent the wish of increased money, new business potentials, contracts, deals and expansion. Baskets are a pretty display as are hand made bird “nests” (ribbon, twigs, twine or even craft wire). A reminder of your growing financial NEST EGG!

Focus on Spring Bulbs! Tulips, hyacinths, daffodils, paperwhites, irises —these flowers are now making their ascent through chilled or snowy landscapes and they represent growth in spite of the stillness (or stuckness) we’ve experienced. If you don’t have your own growing in your garden, get some cut flowers in a flower shop, cut out pictures from a magazine or draw your own bulbs to inspire meditations or just as a reminder of NEW BEGINNINGS and new starts.

Plant the “Seeds of Prosperity”... literally. Pick your favourite flower safe for spring-planting and write down your wishes for prosperity and abundance to plant along with your seeds… as you nurture your plant, you can nurture your intentions! Alternatively, you can start vegetable seedlings indoors or even plant a window-sill herb-garden with a small scroll of your prosperity wishes. There is even a special type of paper you can buy which is embedded with wildflower seeds on which you can write wishes and then plant in your garden: perfect for this project!
