A scent of a flower, the taste of chocolate, or the touch of a fuzzy peach inspired the ancients to incorporate all the human senses to attract love or enhance sexual pleasure, to increase virility and insure conception. It was believed that mixing beautiful foods and scents would please the Goddess Aphrodite and attract love into a person’s life. The word Aphrodisiacs is named after the Goddess of love.

Making Aphrodisiacs for love potions has long been the “wise-woman’s domain, and an important element of folk magic. Wise women or the village’s spiritual leader or psychics were responsible for creating potions that would be powerful enough to attract true love. A mixture of the most delicious foods, or herbs with the loveliest scent, that were pleasing to the eye and touch was considered a powerful potion.

Men also had the abilities to create a powerful aphrodisiac. In the Middle Ages mead (honey wine) was made by monks and considered a powerful potion. The expression “honeymoon” comes from the old tradition of newlyweds drinking mead every night for a lunar month after their marriage to help encourage the conception of a child.

Aphrodisiacs work in a variety of different ways. They can enhance the mood. They can be turned into oils and aromatherapy candles and message creams. They work by evoking a certain thought or memory. Food like oysters and strawberries are considered arousing due to their ripeness, association with sex and suggestive appearance. Aphrodisiacs can also energize the chakras. Another effect can be a purifying of the aura, making you more attractive to people as they pick-up on your positive energy.

Here are just a few things you can use to attract love into your life.

Damiana love tea: (Also good for the circulatory system) is a traditional Aphrodisiacs herb and can be used to make a pleasant Aphrodisiac tea which should be taken daily for at least two weeks. To make the tea you add two tablespoons of damiana (you’ll find at health food stores) to one cup of boiling water and allow to seep for 15 minutes. Strain and drink. You can also turn this tea into a cordial. Add 1 tsp of damiana to one cup of vodka and leave to stand for 5 days. Strain and filter the solution, keeping the liquid. Next, soak the leaves in a 1 cup spring water before straining and filtering the liquid. Heat the water and dissolve 1 cup of honey in it. Add the vodka extract and mix. Leave to stand for a month, and then it is ready to enjoy. The belief is if you drink this, and focus on the positive aspects of your life, you’ll attract new people and fresh love into your life.

Passionflower is a great one to use in potions. Taken in a tea, a passionflower can help encourage the libido and cleanse the aura. Add two tablespoons of passionflower to 1 cup of water and allow to steep for 15 minutes drain and drink.

If you want to attract someone into your life, or want to attract attention at a party then Magnetite is what you should be wearing. Either in a jewelry piece or somewhere on your body. Magnetite is said to draw out people’s feelings, so wear it to attract others to you. Give your loved one magnetite to enchase their virility or to improve a bad back that may be ruining your fun.

Scents were powerful and well-known Aphrodisiacs in ancient times. The scent of patchouli was the most widely used and most powerful. It was believed the scent of patchouli stimulates the base chakra and arouses sexual passion. Wear patchouli oil in small doses as the scent is strong and should be understated rather than overpowering. You can also burn patchouli joss sticks or oil in your home to send those encouraging signals and reduce anxieties that can prohibit love from coming your way.

It was believed the shape, scent and flavor of a rose was the most powerful aphrodisiac in the world, particularly if one was looking for true romance. Rose oil, burned in a room or worn as a perfume, helped encourage a more sensual and romantic mood. Scattering dried rose petals in a young woman’s clothes drawer helped bring her future husband to her.

Just about every food or drink has been touted or proclaimed an aphrodisiac. The magic of aphrodisiacs continues to inspire and mystify us. In many ways we create our own when we entertain or appreciate someone with a candle lit dinner, delicious food and wine to awaken the senses, attract romance and love into a person’s life.
