Mercury is considered “dignified” when its placement is in Gemini, one of the two signs of the Zodiac that it rules (the other is Virgo). This energy is fast moving with ideas, communication, and the speed of life. During this transit, blink and you might just miss it. This hasted position creates strong starts with terrible finishes, meaning the resolve for starting a project comes on strong, but the motivation for finishing can be more challenging, because of the ways that Mercury moves quickly, from idea to idea, mangling good intentions for projects, causing them to be placed on the back burner, until more stability transpires. This transit is most important, though, for the materialization of thoughts and ideas that create projects that are able to be utilized in a long term capacity. A desire for making new connections personally and in business is felt strongly during this transit, with the intention for discovering new thoughts and ideas in a creative way. Music, art, writing, etc. is particularly important during this transit, when focus can be applied. A level of pickiness also exists in this transit, as sometimes the particulars of the small details are paid more attention to than that of the bigger picture of any project that emerges.

In Roman mythology, Mercury, the messenger, was the god of commerce, merchants, travelers, luck, financial gain, but the shadowed side of him ruled over tricksters and thieves. When working with his lighter side, communication forms honest endeavor, understanding, and weaves through the mechanisms that allows one to see things in such a way that other might have difficulties with. The darker side of him thrives on gossip, rumors, and other misinformation, to create a stance of difficulty for those that aren’t liken to his capacities (those with Mercury in other signs, especially water signs and earth signs can be subject to his trickery while he is dignified in the placement of Gemini). In the Tarot, Mercury is represented with the Magician (Magus) card, whereas Gemini is represented by the Lovers card. Where the Magician has a light and dark side, it is very prominent with its stance in intelligent matters, wisdom, and fortitude, as its position tends to create quickness in a non-subtle way. The Lovers card is very indicative of Gemini, because of the representation of duality that this shows, giving Mercury (or the Magician) the ability to equally see both sides of the same coin. As such, the Sun in Gemini is represented by the ten of swords, not a great card on its face, but this card does show that if balance is found, if hypocrisy is not played into, and if the desire for justice in the Universe is present, then the course of action brings about the new day that emerges, creating a transformation from the “old self” to the “new self.” The position of the shadowed side of Mercury nature comes from a stance of boredom, where not being challenged through means of that which is intellectual can destructive.

It is only possible for Mercury to be one Zodiac Sign away from the Sun, which means that if you have Mercury in Gemini, you have the Sun in Taurus, the Sun in Gemini, or the Sun in Cancer. If you are a Taurus, Mercury in Gemini can remove some of the stubbornness that is associated with the Bull Sign of Taurus, as you are able to find it easier to see all angles of any situation. This makes it easier for you to communicate with others, without holding onto your positions in lieu of finding a different mechanism for bringing problem solving to the table. This can also make you more social, more open to suggestion, and more apt for finding solutions that derive from your own perspective in conjunction with the ideas from others. If you are a Gemini with Mercury in Gemini, this is able to add superficiality to the mix for yourself, creating a potential for frustration when refinery is not used in elements of life that interest you, from art and music to business and commerce. This does, however, open up your ability to understand the nature of duality more than most, which can be very helpful in creating open-mindedness. Boredom, however, can create a very destructive mindset that is best to be avoided, because of the ways that this can create isolationism and a stance of self-oppression, especially when it comes to feeling guilt from religious positions and family matters. The Sun in Cancer with Mercury in Gemini can be very blessed, because of the stance of fortitude that this is able to carry forward when it comes to recognizing that you are being held back by your own emotions. Recognizing when you are feeling held back, emotionally, can be challenging for Cancerian people, but with Mercury in Gemini, this allows for a deeper assessment to come forward, when it comes to recognizing the ways that you are able to find a stronger resolve for understanding why you are feeling the way that you are, especially when those feelings tend to be more overwhelming.
